Scotts Bluff County commissioners unanimously approved a proclamation designating May 2025 as Mental Health Month and called on residents and institutions to increase awareness and reduce stigma about mental illness.
Chair Mark Harris read the proclamation into the record, which notes the connection between good mental health and overall well‑being, the prevalence of mental illness, barriers to treatment and the importance of community support and services. The proclamation concludes by asking citizens, government agencies, public and private institutions, businesses and schools to recommit to increased awareness and accessible services.
The nut graf: the proclamation is an official, symbolic recognition intended to amplify mental‑health outreach and encourage local agencies and community groups to coordinate awareness and support efforts during May.
Commissioners moved and seconded the proclamation and voted unanimously to authorize the chair to sign the document.
Ending: The signed proclamation will be distributed to regional behavioral‑health partners and posted with county materials to promote local outreach during the month.
