Colorado Parks and Wildlife staff announced the primary big-game draw application window and the documents and account details hunters must have on file to apply.
The announcement matters because missing or incorrect account information can block an application, cost applicants preference points or licenses, and prevent timely modifications before the deadline.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife staff said applicants need a valid photo ID and their Social Security number entered on their CPW SHOP profile before applying. Hunters born on or after Jan. 1, 1949, must provide a hunter-education number, the staff member said. The staff member advised applicants to check the CPW webpage for which qualifying license is required before trying to claim preference points.
The agency set the primary-draw application season from March 1 through April 1. The staff member warned that drawing any license listed as a first choice in the primary draw will use all of an applicant's preference points for that license, and urged applicants to verify they have entered the correct hunt code on their application. Modifications to applications may be made at no additional charge up until the application deadline, the staff member said, and applicants should apply early to leave time for changes.
Applicants were also told that hunters aged 18 through 64 must possess a Habitat stamp to apply; lifetime-license holders are exempt from the Habitat stamp requirement. The staff member recommended confirming account information and payment methods so licenses can be paid for and delivered, and using the confirmation email to verify an application after submission. The announcement directed hunters to the CPW website, the "what's new" section of the Big Game brochure, and a linked "what's new" video for further details.
The statement closed with a brief good wish for applicants' success in the draw and a reminder to review the agency materials before applying.
