Lorain County dog warden spotlights volunteers, names inaugural Volunteer of the Year

Lorain County Dog Warden Andy Lobenthal told the Lorain County Board of Commissioners on April 25 that volunteers are essential to day-to-day care and the adoption pipeline at the county dog kennel and announced an inaugural Volunteer of the Year award.
"Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in and support," Lobenthal said, describing the volunteer group known as Friends of Lorain County Dog Kennel.
Lobenthal said volunteers help by walking and socializing dogs, reporting behavior and leash responses to staff, arranging transports to rescues, and providing donated supplies. He said…
