Residents spoke during public comment about noise and lighting at the new skate park and about restroom availability at Columbus Park following the skate park opening April 26.
One resident who identified himself as Darren Fisher, of 303 Third Avenue East, thanked parks staff for having pickleball, basketball and volleyball nets in place on schedule this spring and said recreation facilities were well used. "I would love to see some sort of sign on the door... so that people know it's closed because of water issues or something to that effect," Fisher said, referring to winter closures of some restrooms.
Other residents reported ongoing noise from a speaker at the skate park (described as audible across the street and through garages). A resident asked whether lights were planned at the park; council and staff said no lights were planned at this time. Residents pressed for clearer rules and enforcement about amplified sound and for signage explaining restroom closures so people know why facilities are locked.
City staff and councilors said they would pursue temporary rules and signage. The city manager said staff, the city attorney and public works would coordinate signage and that the current set of rules is temporary while staff discuss longer-term measures. Council members also suggested posting the city noise ordinance near the park so police can enforce it when necessary.
The council heard the comments and directed staff to follow up; no formal ordinance change or new regulations were adopted at the meeting.
