Communications staff reviewed the district’s communication framework and showed the board a draft brand for emergency notices, titled CCUSD Safe, at the April 22 work study.
Staff described three primary communication tiers: teacher-level (emails, Google Classroom, Remind), school-level (school newsletters, automated calls, website and social media) and district-level (press releases, district website, social campaigns and board meetings). The presentation noted a fourth channel: emergency communications, which the district is packaging under the CCUSD Safe brand so that families can instantly recognize time-sensitive notices.
Staff said the district currently uses Remind for classroom- and coach-level messaging but is evaluating ParentSquare — the parent company that now owns Remind — as a single platform that would centralize email, text, voice and forms in one app for teachers, parents and students. Staff said ParentSquare can integrate with PowerSchool for roster-based communications, but groups such as clubs or parent-run activities would still need separate lists to be created.
Board members and commenters praised recent improvements in communication cadence, social media activity and combined text/email approaches. Staff credited communications lead Lisonbee for social media and newsletter coordination and said communications staff will return with additional implementation details on ParentSquare, including how it would connect to PowerSchool, costs and training plans for teachers.
The board was advised that CCUSD Safe messages would be used for drills and emergencies to help families quickly recognize urgent communications from the district.
