During communications on April 24 the presiding commissioner announced a schedule of public listening sessions and administrative timelines for upcoming county business.
Town halls: The commission said it will hold a town hall on Thursday, May 8 at 6 p.m. at the White House Church in Marshfield (address given in the meeting), and another on a Saturday in May at Sparta City Hall at 9 a.m., with additional town halls tentatively scheduled in June. A Chadwick town-hall on May 29 was described as not yet confirmed. The commissioners described the sessions as listening posts where no votes will be taken.
Holder Road vacation: The commission set a public hearing on July 10 (to be held upstairs in the old courtroom) for the road vacation petition and said it will take a final vote on July 31. Commissioners said they will meet in early May with the full commission and Austin Fox, the county attorney, to determine hearing format and procedures and to notify the two parties and counsel of how the hearing will be conducted.
Library board selection: Commissioners discussed upcoming expirations on the library board of trustees and agreed to open applications in May, set applications due by June 1, schedule interviews in June and select a new member so the appointee can be sworn in at a July meeting. The commission referenced a special appointment made in December (Mary Hernandez DeCarl) that still appears on the commission web page and asked staff to update online materials.
Administration and staffing: Commissioners discussed short-term coverage while one commissioner is on vacation the following week (payroll week), assigning duties for payroll oversight, and improving the county website. The presiding commissioner asked that Carrie from human resources be given responsibility to update the website and receive board applications to ensure consistent processing. The commission noted the county currently lacks a full-time administrative assistant at that desk.
The presiding commissioner closed communications by thanking staff and reminding the public that the next meetings and hearing dates will be posted.
