Board authorizes concept phase for high school multipurpose field; demolition and reconstruction continue

The Interboro Board of School Directors authorized concept-phase planning for a multipurpose athletic field at the high school and approved related capital work at its April 24 meeting.
Capital-improvement committee members reported that demolition for phase 2 of high school construction is underway while students use newly completed cafeterias, science labs and art rooms. The board discussed contractor commitments and the desire for spaces to open with minimal outstanding punch-list items. Administrators said the proposed multipurpose field would be built at the site that currently contains softball, field hockey and soccer fields and would serve as a test site prior to renovation of the South Avenue Athletic Complex.
During site excavation in the cafeteria, contractors encountered a broken hydraulic pipe; the board approved a motion to pay $5,975 to address the environmental/repair issue. The board also authorized concept and design planning, lighting and a small outbuilding/snack bar for the high-school field; additional design and contracting steps will follow committee review. The capital-improvement committee will meet again virtually on April 29.
The board was briefed that some facility areas are already in service, including new cafeterias and nurse offices, and that reconstruction will continue through the summer.
