York City’s committee on April 23 voted to put the annual workers’ compensation insurance renewal with PMA on the May 6 legislative agenda.
Administration staff said this is the yearly renewal for the city’s now‑fully insured workers’ compensation policy. Historically PMA served as the city’s third‑party claims administrator when the city was self‑insured and continued to administer claims when the city moved to a fully insured high‑deductible plan. Staff said PMA is interested in continuing the relationship and that council approval is needed for the renewal because of cost.
A committee member noted the budget line includes a broker estimate that built in a roughly 10% safety factor between 2024 and 2025; staff said the actual quote is expected within days and is anticipated to be lower than that budgeted estimate. Staff said the existing budget should cover the expected premium and deductible exposure.
After brief questions, a committee member moved to place the renewal on the May 6 legislative agenda; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The item will appear in the May 6 legislative packet for council vote; no final policy or contract was executed at this meeting.
