Board hears presentation on Organic Life food‑service performance; administrators will bring renewal for approval

District staff on April 23 briefed the Grayslake Community Consolidated School District 46 Board of Education on the district’s food‑service contractor, Organic Life LLC, and signaled that a contract renewal would come before the board at the next meeting.
Administration said Organic Life was awarded a food‑service management contract in March 2024 and has since presented performance highlights to the district. The vendor reported serving about 11,000 additional meals from August 2024 through February 2025 compared with the prior provider’s year‑to‑date counts. Staff also said Organic Life has continued composting programs at multiple schools and expanded student engagement initiatives and entrée choices at elementary schools beginning April 1.
The administration explained that the contract follows Illinois Public Act 102‑1101, which allows an annual rate adjustment tied to the Consumer Price Index for food away from home; administration cited a 3.6 percent CPI increase for the upcoming renewal. The administration said it planned to present the formal renewal for board approval at the next meeting.
Board members asked for additional, measurable reporting on nutrition and resource‑conservation goals. A board member asked administration to include metrics in the resource‑conservation committee’s annual report showing whether compostable materials and single‑use reductions are being implemented at cafeterias and whether menu changes meet nutritional expectations. Administration noted this is the vendor’s second year under contract and said it would request the additional reporting.
