Dennis Grennan, a mechanical engineer from Columbus and a part-time engineering consultant with HDR Engineering, told the committee he worked 32 years at the Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD), including eight years as plant manager at Gerald Gentleman Station and later as vice president of transmission, distribution and customer services. He said he previously served on the Power Review Board from 2014 through 2022 and represented Nebraska on the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) regional state committee, including a term as committee president in 2020.
“I just want to make sure issues that come before the Power Review Board ... that I can be able to participate and, hopefully bring some experience and knowledge to that decision making,” Grennan said. He added, “I would ask your approval today to be able to serve on the Power Review Board for another term.”
Grennan told senators he has also worked with HDR on transmission routing, generation and early solar projects across the SPP footprint and beyond. Senator Marco Juarez asked where his consulting with HDR has taken him; Grennan said HDR’s power work spans the SPP footprint from North Dakota to Texas and noted he helped HDR expand its power practice.
Committee Chair Senator Tom Fran solicited proponents, opponents and neutral testimony; none was offered. The open hearing closed with the committee moving into executive session and no public vote was recorded during the transcripted portion of the meeting.
