“On some really important news, our water rights decree case has been solved,” the manager said and added that the council will hear from water attorney Jeff Williamson and water engineer Jordan Dimock at the May 15 meeting to explain the outcome. The manager said the case had been open for eight years.
The manager also reminded council members of a meeting with police‑chief recruiters on May 1 at 7:15 a.m. at Sky High where councilors will discuss desired qualities for the next police chief; the recruiters will follow with community and staff sessions. The manager said the recruiters requested a small group for the community input session and that department‑level meetings will occur with police staff.
Other administrative updates included a summary of county and intergovernmental topics: the manager discussed the Upper Rio Grande lodging‑marketing tax effort and noted a recent Colorado House bill (HB 1272) that changes the framework for local lodging‑marketing taxes. The manager said the legislature altered rules that could allow increases up to 6 percent and that the regional board is considering how to proceed.
