During the public forum on April 24, a Vienna resident provided a progress update on an effort to revive the Marietta Y and pursue a larger regional aquatic center.
The speaker said doctors Gary Christiania and Mark Christiania have established a 501(c)(3), the Bridal Ohio Valley Aquatic Center Foundation (as named in the presentation), and have raised $4 million in private funds plus a $750,000 state grant; they are awaiting another $750,000. The foundation reported it had a draft pro forma and had completed a site feasibility review indicating the existing site previously held a six-lane pool and that a proposed renovation could expand to eight lanes. The presenters also discussed a larger new-build option similar to regional 50-meter pools, with low/median/high cost estimates provided in the presentation: roughly $40.2 million (low), $44.5 million (median) and $48.8 million (high).
The speaker said the project team had conducted outreach across Parkersburg, Vienna, Wood County and nationally and that the effort was exploring property options including an idle facility at Williams as a possible central location. The presentation was informational; no council action was requested that evening. Council staff offered to share contact information and promotional materials.
