Taylor High honors freshmen and sophomores with academic, arts and departmental awards

Taylor High School students were recognized on stage for academic and arts achievements in a ceremony that honored freshmen and sophomores with academic letters, Scholastic Art Awards and departmental prizes.
An announcer explained the program at the start: "These letters are used to honor and distinguish students who maintain their hard work and dedication to stay on the high honor roll throughout the school year." Staff said there are two levels of recognition and that students enrolled in CCP courses online or at a university who lack a third-quarter grade will receive their pin and letter later when semester grades are filed.
The program named multiple students by class and award. Examples called during the ceremony included Macy Bessler and Gabriela Brennan among the freshmen; David Bartholome and Randy Gardner among sophomores; and several students who received Scholastic Art Awards, including Macy Bessler and Mikayla McPherson. Staff also announced departmental winners across science, social studies, fine arts, athletics, band and technology departments.
School staff emphasized the size of the Scholastic Art Awards competition: staff said more than 3,000 pieces were submitted regionally and about 300 were chosen as winners. The ceremony also noted that students who previously received the highest-honors letter will receive only a pin in subsequent years to add to that letter.
Presenters named in the program included Marla Hackman, who joined the announcements for honors; Katie Ryan, who announced departmental awards; Ms. Kaitlyn Rudiselle, identified as a department chair for social studies; and Susan DeMerck, identified as the fine arts department chair. Band and music awards were presented by Matty Ballhaus. At the close, staff said a copy of the presentation would be posted on the Taylor High School section of the Three Rivers website.
The event focused on recognition rather than policy or board business. Organizers encouraged family photos on stage and noted a following award session would begin at 2:00 p.m.
