The proclamation lists tree benefits including environmental, economic and aesthetic services: trees provide wildlife habitat, help purify air and water, stabilize soil, provide shade and increase property values. The mayor said the proclamation would be presented again at the tree-planting event, which the mayor and staff said will occur Friday at 9 a.m. at the new fire station on the mountain.
Tina King, director of city services, was introduced and the council noted that all Arbor Board appointments have been approved and board members are invited to the Friday planting. Councilman Robinson later reminded the public about the tree planting and confirmed a ribbon-cutting for Fire Station No. 5 scheduled for Thursday at 2 p.m.
