Devrick Williams, former Gadsden councilman and executive director of the Coach Rudolph Foundation, thanked the city council for its support and reported on donations to local youth-sports programs.
Williams said the foundation has focused on youth sports to honor his father, Coach Rudolph Williams, and to support the Quest for Excellence legacy in Gadsden. He said the foundation has distributed funds through screened, reputable programs rather than through individual payouts.
This year, Williams told the council, the foundation gave $2,000 to the Gadsden City School System—$1,000 to the flag football team and $1,000 to the track team—and $4,000 to the City of Gadsden’s Parks and Recreation Department for youth baseball, girls volleyball, girls softball and flag football. Williams said the foundation does not rely on a single donor and noted a continuing partnership with the city and school system.
Council members praised Williams’ work. Councilman Smith and Councilman Avery thanked Williams and highlighted the importance of volunteer-led sports programs in youth development. The council did not take formal action related to the donations at the meeting; Williams’ remarks were presented as a public gratitude and report.
