Rockville Centre Education Foundation previews gala, grants and nearly $1 million distributed to schools

Eric Mingerante, co‑president of the Rockville Centre Education Foundation, told the Board of Education April 23 that the foundation has supported district programs for more than 30 years and has raised about $1 million to distribute as grants to schools.
Mingerante said the foundation funds enrichment clusters, artists‑in‑residence, science research support, art projects, music and other extracurricular and curricular enrichments. He thanked district staff and volunteers for support and introduced other foundation members who described grant review and funded projects.
Jean Harris, identified herself as a citizen, taxpayer, volunteer and retiree, described the foundation’s fundraising activities—Schoolapalooza, a Giving Tuesday campaign with a matching donor, and the gala scheduled for Saturday, April 26 at Gatsby on the Ocean—and invited board and community participation. Harris noted student contributions to the gala, including the high school jazz band and student photographers, and provided the foundation web address, rbcedfoundation.org, for tickets and online participation.
Foundation presenters said grants are used for districtwide projects that can benefit all elementary schools and that the foundation evaluates applications from teachers and principals. No board action or funding votes were taken at the work session.
