Moorpark College says enrollment up 5%; highlights workforce partnerships and paid internship expansion

Moorpark College President Dr. Julia Sukhanu visited the Camarillo City Council to present the college’s recent enrollment gains and workforce partnerships designed to keep talent in Ventura County.
Dr. Sukhanu told the council that Moorpark College has grown by about 5% year-over-year in spring semester enrollment and that the college is investing in high-demand career programs such as paramedic studies, biomanufacturing, cybersecurity, and engineering technology. She described partnerships with biotech firms including Amgen, Takeda and Thermo Fisher and said those relationships help the college design curriculum, provide faculty and create internship and hiring pipelines.
"If you get a certificate and associate's degree in biomanufacturing, you earn about $54,000 a year. If you get a bachelor's degree in biomanufacturing, you earn about $85,000 a year," Dr. Sukhanu said as she summarized career pathways that begin at the community college level and can lead to baccalaureate degrees.
Council members asked about dual-enrollment access for Camarillo High School students and services for first-generation college students. Dr. Sukhanu said about 30% of Moorpark students are first-generation and that the college is expanding outreach through dual/concurrent enrollment, targeted counseling, basic-needs support and a college career center. She described a recent effort to expand paid internships and said Moorpark has received roughly $500,000—awarded through a partnership with Congressman Julia Brownley’s office—to help support paid internships so businesses can hire students.
Council members expressed support and praised Moorpark College’s role as an educational and workforce partner for Camarillo residents.
