Warren County officials were notified at a joint liaison meeting that the town will increase the septic-hauler fee from $50 to $55 and then apply 2.25% annual increases for five years, after which the rate will be reviewed.
The change, presented by town staff, applies to septic-haul companies; the county collects the fee and remits it to the town, Mr. Wilson said. “It’s paid by the haulers. The county just collects it and then pays on to the town,” he said. Mr. Wilson also described the schedule: an immediate increase to $55 followed by 2.25% per year for five years.
The board noted the current fee had been in place “at least since 1999,” and attendees called the adjustment overdue. County and town officials said they will review the rate again after the five-year series of increases.
No formal vote was recorded at the meeting; the item was presented as a notification from the town. County members asked that the county be told as soon as any tipping-fee or other related changes are adopted so they can assess service impacts and budget needs.
The town representative said the town commissioned a recent rate study that informed the change and that the town will perform another rate study after five years to reassess the schedule.
