The Finance Committee on Jan. 6 moved a resolve to the full council for first reading to accept an additional $6,731,241 in funding from the National Guard Bureau for the runway rehabilitation project. Staff said that, together with previously accepted funds, this additional amount brings the Guard's total contribution to $16,566,241, which staff said represents 35% of the estimated $47,000,000 construction cost.
Staff explained the guard's usage of the runway was calculated at roughly 35%, and a cooperative agreement that defines terms and payment was drafted but not executed earlier because the project was delayed. The additional funding would formalize the Guard's contribution and authorize the city to execute the cooperative agreement. Staff said the project is now underway.
A committee member moved and another seconded that the resolve be scheduled for first reading at the next council meeting. The committee recorded the motion and second; the transcript records no objections and the item will proceed to the next council meeting for first reading.
