Summary
The board extended Superintendent Jessica Williams' contract through June 30, 2026, and Williams told trustees she intends to step down at the end of that term. Trustees discussed starting a superintendent search in early fall and placing a planning item on the May agenda.
At the March meeting the board voted to extend Superintendent Jessica Williams' contract by one year through June 30, 2026; at the April meeting Williams told trustees she plans to step down at the end of that term.
A board member who raised the issue during new business said Williams informed trustees that she believes she has "been placed in this role for a season" and that she intends to leave the district in a stronger place after the additional year. The board acknowledged Williams' role in stabilizing the district following her February appointment and noted that the district was removed from the state Department of Education's list of underperforming districts during her tenure.
Trustees discussed planning for a successor. One trustee asked that the board place a superintendent-search item on the May agenda so preparations can begin and a search can be launched in early fall, with the aim of having a successor in place by June 2026. The motion to add the item was presented by a trustee during the meeting for consideration at the May meeting.
