The Hall County Board of Commissioners on April 22 approved a rezoning request from Abigail Burrell’s nonprofit Love Your Story to rezone 4436 Thompson Bridge Road to a planned residential development for temporary housing for children and families receiving intensive medical care.
Abigail Burrell, identified herself as the founder and executive director of Love Your Story, and described the project as a nonprofit residential program providing free stays (about three weeks on average) for families who must travel for intensive, ongoing medical therapy. Burrell said the chosen 7.74‑acre site lies within 14 minutes of three private therapy clinics the nonprofit serves.
Planning staff and the Planning Commission recommended approval with five conditions; the board voted to approve the rezoning subject to those conditions. No members of the public spoke in opposition at the county meeting; one written comment in support had been submitted at the Planning Commission stage.
Burrell said the nonprofit has served about 70 families over nearly three years and is seeking a permanent, quiet residential facility with private rooms and a community building to offer respite and local support to families traveling for care. The project was described as nonprofit housing (not permanent low‑income housing) with operations and occupancy restricted by the rezoning conditions.
The board passed the rezoning with the conditions recommended by staff and the Planning Commission; the transcript records the motion, a second and a voice vote in favor. The staff packet includes the five conditions the applicant must meet before issuance of permits.
