The Hall County Planning Commission on April 21 approved a variance to sign standards for property at 3505 Kubota Way, a light/heavy industrial site within the Gateway Corridor Overlay District, granting additional wall and canopy signage beyond standard code allowances. Staff recommended approval with one condition; the commission approved the request, adding a second condition that all conditions of zoning be made part of any plat or plans for the property.
Ken Crabbe of Anchor Sign said the hardship stems from topography and a large required setback; at the posted travel speeds, a small 32‑square‑foot sign allowed by code would not provide sufficient visibility. Crabbe also described a safety rationale for additional canopy/directional signage at truck entrances and exits, saying, “if you don't see those, you're gonna have trucks pulling in where trucks are pulling out... you're gonna have a bad accident there.”
The motion passed by voice vote and the commission’s decision is final unless appealed to the Hall County Board of Commissioners, in which case the appeal would be heard at the Board’s meeting on May 22.
