McHugh described three phases of his entry plan — transition, summer and fall — and said he made regular visits to every school to "see things with my own eyes" so he could understand student and staff experiences. He announced two advisory groups: a superintendent student advisory council (fifth through eighth graders) and a superintendent community advisory group for families and community stakeholders; both are planned to meet during the year to provide direct feedback.
On operations McHugh provided a bricks‑and‑mortar update on the kindergarten center: foundation work, storm traps and an elevator pit were in place and district staff expected steel and playground installation to begin soon, with Churchill’s temporary play arrangements to end when a new playground is finished (mid‑November timeline given). He asked the community to complete preregistration in November for full‑day kindergarten planning so the district can project enrollment and logistics (transportation, before/after care).
McHugh said transportation changes since switching vendors have been "bumpy" and that the district is monitoring vendor performance to deliver required service. He also said the district will conduct a midpoint review of the five‑year strategic plan with subcommittees that include staff and community members and that the regional office of education will support the review.
Board members thanked McHugh for outreach and school visits and asked that strategic‑plan metrics be included in the follow‑up reporting.
