Board appoints Sarah Rodriguez as first principal of District 41 kindergarten center; about 319 students preregistered

The Glen Ellyn School District 41 board approved the appointment of Sarah Rodriguez as the first principal of the district’s new kindergarten center during its Dec. 16 meeting.
Superintendent Jeff McHugh described the selection as his first hire after joining the district and said the process included district staff, cabinet and community stakeholders. Rodriguez told the board she has worked in District 41 for 24 years and said she was honored to lead the kindergarten center. "I've been able to work with two amazing families...and I feel like all the roles I've been lucky enough to have have led me to this moment," Rodriguez said.
McHugh also provided an update on kindergarten planning: concrete work on the new building was progressing and preregistration, which closed in November, showed about 319 kindergartners. He said roughly 70% of preregistered families indicated a preference for full-day kindergarten while about 30% leaned toward half-day; final registration opens Jan. 15 and will finalize enrollments and logistics, including transportation and start/end times for grades 1–5.
Board members congratulated Rodriguez and noted the district’s internal leadership pipeline and the rigorous selection process. Rodriguez said leaving a school community where she had close ties will be difficult but called the opportunity to lead the kindergarten center "an adventure" she was proud to accept.
