Bridgeport police to deploy mobile license-plate reader on patrol car

BRIDGEPORT — The Bridgeport police department plans to deploy a mobile license-plate reader on one patrol car later this month, the police chief said at the borough council’s April 22 meeting.
"On the 28th of this month we're actually gonna have one of our cars with the new license plate reader installed," the police chief said. He described the mobile reader as a complement to the borough’s stationary readers that will let officers check vehicles as they patrol alleys and streets nightly to identify stolen vehicles or wanted people.
The chief also congratulated Sergeants Bill Murphy and Evan Flora on completing multi-week command and leadership finals. "Their graduation is in two weeks," he said, and thanked them for the work they put into the course.
The chief reported other community policing work and a note about a displaced resident seeking to return to Bridgeport. The deployment described was an informational report at the council meeting; no contract award, ordinance or formal council vote on the license-plate reader was recorded in the transcript.
