Atascadero council adopts 2025–27 work plan; consent calendar approved

The Atascadero City Council unanimously approved a three‑page 2025–27 work plan on April 23 after a brief discussion and three member edits. The council also approved the consent calendar by unanimous roll call at the start of the meeting.

The work plan, which staff said will guide the budget process and departmental priorities over the next two fiscal years, reflects council priorities set during an earlier goal‑setting workshop: economic and community vibrancy; fiscal and infrastructure efficiency and sustainability; and public safety with high‑quality city services. City Manager Jim Lewis told the council the executive team condensed priorities into a concise, three‑page plan so it is easy to communicate and to use in budget preparation.

Edits approved by the council: Council Member Funk requested three changes, which were accepted and added to the final document: add the wastewater collection system explicitly to the wastewater treatment/WRF priority; include the county alongside nonprofit partners for homelessness response; and spell out acronyms appearing in the work plan for clarity. Staff confirmed those edits would be incorporated before publication.

Votes and procedure: The motion to approve the work plan was made by Council Member Newsom and seconded by Council Member Funk; the vote was unanimous. Earlier in the meeting the council approved the consent calendar (items A‑1 through A‑4) on a motion by Council Member Funk and a second by Council Member Peake; the roll call vote recorded all members present voting yes.

Why it matters: The work plan will inform the staff’s proposed 2025–26 budget and set staffing and project priorities for the coming biennium. Council directed staff to include the agreed edits before finalizing the publicly available document.
