Trustees accept resignation paperwork for librarian Alicia; authorize chair to sign separation notice

The Sumner County Library Trustees on April 23 accepted resignation and separation paperwork for an employee identified in the meeting as Alicia and authorized the chair to sign necessary separation documents.

Chair Joanna Daniels read a letter Alicia had sent to the board explaining that an early draft of her resignation, posted publicly by another individual, contained references she later removed and that her final reason for leaving was health-related. Alicia's letter said she had been operating under anxiety related to policy discussions and that she removed policy criticisms from the final version before sending it. The chair read portions of that letter aloud to trustees.

Trustees discussed whether the employee had left voluntarily and whether she worked through a full two-week notice. The board recorded that Alicia's last day was April 8 and that she did not complete the full two-week period; trustees characterized her departure as voluntary. "To my knowledge, it was the eighth," a chair-conveyed response said when asked about Alicia's last day.

Trustee Jim Holcomb moved, and Mike Ryan seconded, a motion to sign the employee termination and separation notice and to give the chair authority to sign any additional paperwork related to the separation. The board approved the motion by voice vote.

Ending: The board marked the employee as eligible for rehire on the separation notice. Trustees also noted they had not received separation paperwork in advance of the special-called meeting and that the board had received a copy of Alicia's letter at the meeting.
