City staff said the fee adjustments are intended to keep Chaska’s licensing fees closer to the range charged by neighboring communities. The city’s licensing calendar aligns with the state’s July 1 licensing year; staff said the city must publish any fee changes prior to processing applications and distributed notice to current liquor-license holders. Staff reported no public comments on the change during the public hearing.
Council members said modest, staggered fee increases are appropriate to avoid falling far behind peer cities and to maintain a steady cadence of adjustments rather than infrequent large increases. The council adopted the ordinance after the public hearing; the new fee schedule will be published in advance of the July license renewal period.
