The Glades County Board of County Commissioners on March 24 proclaimed March 2025 as American Red Cross Month and recognized the chapter's volunteers for disaster response work.
Joel Palmer, who identified himself as executive director for the American Red Cross Florida Gulf Coast and Harper chapter, accepted the proclamation and described the chapter's work across five counties, including sheltering, relief distribution and training. "The American Red Cross truly is a community asset, and every day, local volunteers and donors help deliver the mission," Palmer said. "When emergency strikes, our communities rally together to help families and individuals when it matters most."
Palmer urged residents to donate, volunteer or take lifesaving courses and reminded the community to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season. Commissioners thanked the chapter for its recent response to local storms and noted continued support for disaster relief operations.
The board approved the proclamation by voice vote; staff recorded recognition of the local chapter and invited the public to connect with the Red Cross for volunteer opportunities and trainings.
