On March 24 the Glades County Board approved renaming a vacant permanent permit technician/TDC coordinator position to Planning Technician/TDC Coordinator and adopted the position as presented, including the staffing assignment of John Despercher.
Staff explained the change is nominal and budget-neutral: the position was previously in the adopted budget and is being retitled to reflect planning duties rather than permitting-only work. County staff said the position will be funded 75% from Community Development and 25% from Tourist Development Council (TDC) funds; no additional budget dollars were requested.
Commissioners asked whether the change affected pay or duties; staff said the budgeted position remains the same and the change reallocates duties to reduce permitting workload and add planning expertise. The board approved the title update and the appointment by motion; the vote was recorded in favor with no opposition.
Staff will proceed to fill the vacancy under the adopted title and funding distribution and to assign duties consistent with the stated split between permitting and planning responsibilities.
