The Glades County Board of County Commissioners voted Tuesday to authorize the chair to sign a letter supporting GoRail—s freight‑rail investment initiative and to permit GoRail to present that support to the Florida House subcommittee on transportation and the Senate transportation committee.
Staff told the board the initiative aims to reduce heavy truck traffic and encourage rail freight development that could bolster county economic and port connections. Commissioners said they supported efforts to shift freight from roadways to rail where feasible and to pursue infrastructure and economic development benefits for the county.
Commissioner Patterson moved approval; Commissioner Barnes seconded. The motion passed by voice vote, 5-0.
Ending: The authorization allows the county chair to sign a county‑level support letter and to have GoRail use the county name in its presentations to the state transportation committees.
