Prince George’s County Board of Education Chairman Brandon Jackson announced the board would close its April 24, 2025 meeting and move to an executive session after a unanimous roll-call vote.
Jackson read a statement saying the meeting would be closed “under the following provisions from General Provisions Article §3-305(b)(1), (2), (7), (8), (9) and (12).” He said the board would discuss administrative matters and chair and superintendent reports, personal appointments and staffing, and collective bargaining updates, and that “publicly disclosing information before it’s finalized may result in lawsuits and fines” and that releasing applicants’ personal information could discourage candidates from applying.
The motion to close the meeting was put to a roll-call vote. Board clerk Miss McMillan called the roll; nine board members answered “Aye.” The board adopted the motion and recessed to executive session.
The closure is a formal procedural action authorizing nonpublic discussion of specified topics. The board did not take public testimony during the recorded portion of the meeting, and no further public details were released about the matters to be discussed in executive session.
The meeting opened at 5:30 p.m., and the closure vote was recorded on the April 24 agenda. The board reported nine members present at the time of the vote and recorded the motion as adopted. The board proceeded to the executive session for the reasons Jackson read aloud.
