The Bruceville-Eddy City Council approved a change order for SJ and J Construction, LLC, to increase the depth of Lift Station Site C by about 1.5 feet at a cost of $19,500, a measure engineers said is intended to reduce flood risk and increase wastewater capacity.
Staff and the project engineer reported that, during bidding and site inspection, the lift-station location was found to have higher-than-anticipated drainage risk from nearby creekflow and vegetation. The engineer recommended lengthening the lift-station structure to provide additional capacity and prevent overflows into the creek.
Project drawings presented at the meeting showed the extension from roughly 11 feet to 13.3 feet in a key dimension; Taber Associates and city staff recommended approval of the extra work and cost. A motion to accept the change order passed unanimously after Councilman Prater seconded.
City staff said the change order is part of the ongoing sewer construction contract and will be processed through standard contract change controls; the vendor SJ and J Construction, LLC will perform the additional excavation and installation work under the same project contract.
