House committee sends billboard relocation bill back to transportation committee

The House Committee on Emergency Management, General Government, and Veterans voted Thursday to send Senate Bill 417, which modifies provisions regarding relocation of outdoor advertising signs and digital billboards, to the Joint Committee on Transportation without recommendation.

The measure was introduced in a work session. Vice Chair Graber moved “Senate Bill 4 17 without recommendation as to passage to the joint committee on transportation.” The clerk then called the roll and members present recorded their positions. After the roll call, the chair announced, “Yes. The motion passes, and the measure is sent to the joint committee on transportation.”

Committee members did not request further discussion during the work session. The legislative staff summary presented to the committee described the bill as modifying provisions related to relocation of outdoor advertising signs and digital billboards and stated it was sent to this committee in error and needs referral to the transportation committee.

Votes at a glance: Vice Chair Graber moved the referral; the motion carried by roll call. Several representatives were recorded as excused during the roll call and others voted “aye” as recorded by the clerk.

The committee closed the work session on SB 417 after the vote and proceeded to scheduled public hearings on other measures.
