House adopts resolution honoring artist Hank Pander

The Oregon House adopted House Concurrent Resolution 24, honoring artist Hendrik "Hank" Pander for his lifelong work depicting Oregon landscapes, events and public figures.
Representative Courtney Bowman carried the resolution and delivered extended remarks about Pander's life and art, noting his work on gubernatorial portraits and paintings of Mount Hood, the New Carissa wreck and other Oregon scenes. Bowman praised Pander's combination of journalistic impulse and artistic craft and thanked the artist's family and estate archivist for attending the ceremony.
Bowman recounted family testimony about Pander's arrival to the United States and his lifelong ties to Oregon. "Hank captured defining moments and transformational leaders of the last half century in this state, and he was an Oregon original," Bowman said on the floor. Members of Pander's family, including his wife Jody and sons Arnold and Jacob, were present in the chamber for the observance.
Following the remarks the House voted on final reading; the Speaker declared HCR 24 passed. The front-line ceremony included visual displays of reproductions and several of Pander's works were noted as on loan from the Oregon Historical Society or in climate-controlled storage for the Capital Construction office.
