The Page County Board of Supervisors approved the county Department of Transportation (DOT) FY 2026 budget and a five-year program of road and bridge projects after receiving an update from Page County Engineer JD King.
King told the board the DOT budget for FY 2026 totals $5,655,000 (compared with $5,685,000 in the prior year). He described planned work including an 80-mile farm-to-market granular resurfacing program slated for next spring (funded with farm-to-market dollars), targeted federal-aid hot-mix projects where chip-seal is not permitted by federal construction standards, and multiple bridge projects that may be replaced with culverts or bypass roadways. King also reported recent storm cleanup work, bridge repairs covered by federal aid following the governor's disaster declaration, and work to repair guardrails.
The board approved the DOT budget and then voted to adopt the five-year program, which lists projects in phased order (including base stabilization and hot-mix surfacing on J-53, a Yorktown Bypass project replacing a bridge with roughly 2,100 feet of new roadway, and several culvert/bridge conversion projects across the county). King noted design work and landowner coordination are ongoing for some future structures and that grant cycles and limited construction funds constrain the program.
The board recorded motions and "ayes" to approve both the DOT budget and the five-year program. The county will continue pursuing federal and regional grant funds and prioritize safety projects such as shoulder widening and asphalt shoulder augmentation tied to a previously discussed safety-action plan.
