County staff provided updates Tuesday on recruitment, the Cross Insurance Arena operations budget and the Northport Building timeline.
Human-resources and corrections staff reported continued hiring of roughly five to seven correction officers per month since the start of the year, with retention running about 55% to 60%. Staff said there are current openings for three patrol deputies, three dispatch positions and other vacancies in the jail; four collective bargaining agreements remain active and staff said an executive session will be scheduled to discuss labor relations details.
A county official said trustees recently reviewed the Cross Insurance Arena operations budget and forwarded a positive recommendation to the county commission; the county manager and staff are tightening aspects of the budget and plan to place it on the May commission agenda for formal consideration.
On the Northport Building, county staff said the anticipated substantial completion date of March 28 did not occur but the contractor has ramped work and the second and third floors are approximately 95% complete. The county expects to be able to fully move into the building in about five weeks, roughly over the Memorial Day weekend, contingent on remaining first-floor work.
The chair asked for a motion to move into executive session under "Title 1, MRSA, paragraph 4056 d" to discuss a lease arrangement involving Powerplay LLC; the meeting record shows the item was scheduled but does not record an executive-session outcome.
Why it matters: staffing levels affect jail operations and public services; progress on facility projects and arena budgeting has implications for county operations and scheduling.
