Fredericks told commissioners he brings more than 30 years of investigative experience, primarily with the New Bedford, Massachusetts Police Department and the Collier County (Florida) Sheriff's Office, including time assigned to homicide investigations and a two-year detail as a DEA task-force officer. "The majority of my background is in long term, complex investigation, mostly focused on homicide," Fredericks said.
Fredericks described plans to expand training and technology for the county's detectives and crime-scene technicians, specifically pointing to forensic examination of telephones and data-retention devices as an area where the county has been "lacking." He also said he had taken on the county's participation in a DEA drug take-back event scheduled for Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at multiple county locations.
Both proclamations were read and then approved by unanimous vote. The law-enforcement proclamation notes the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department was accredited in 2025 and received the National Sheriffs Association Triple Crown Award for accreditation in law enforcement, corrections and inmate health care; it also cited 2024 call-volume statistics provided in the proclamation language.
Why it matters: the new CID captain will oversee investigative operations that affect public safety countywide. The proclamations formally recognize corrections and law-enforcement personnel and highlight departmental community programs such as the drug take-back initiative.
