A county staff member replied, "I'm assuming that the furnace went out... it was done on an emergency basis," and said the cost was not a scheduled repair or budgeted expense.
O'Leary also questioned a line on page 40 (claim no. 8295) described as the teardown of the Rocker Bridge. County staff said the structure was a former BNSF railroad bridge that had been deeded back to Silver Bow County after abandonment; staff said the bridge's pillars had rotted and that water was pooling on the roadway beneath it, creating a need for removal and road repairs.
On page 49 (claim no. 8057) commissioners asked about a portable toilet rental listed as billed through March 2025 and referenced to the Butte Armory. Staff clarified this charge covered portable toilets used by the county's RMAP crews; the porta‑potties are hauled to job sites so three‑person crews do not have to stop work to travel to restrooms.
After the questions, Commissioner Boyle moved to review the expenditure list dated April 23, 2025, in the amount of $1,597,245.35; Commissioner Thatcher seconded. The committee voted to approve the expenditure list, 5‑0, with Commissioner Shea excused.
Commissioner O'Leary later relayed a follow‑up from Kathy Kennison of the county IT department, saying Kennison reported the county is exploring cellular plans that include satellite coverage through a carrier such as T‑Mobile; O'Leary described that as a potential alternative to separately purchased satellite phones.
No formal action was taken on budget transfers during the session. The committee adjourned after a motion by Commissioner O'Leary, seconded by Commissioner Boyle; members voiced approval and the meeting ended.
