A partnership between Shoes That Fit, GEICO and the Norfolk Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority supplied more than 400 pairs of shoes to students at Richard Bowling Elementary, Norfolk Public Schools said.
Members of Norfolk City Council and the Norfolk School Board attended the distribution, where the school principal described the occasion as more than footwear. The principal said, "It's going to have a wonderful impact on them. Them receiving free shoes is more than just providing them with footwear. It is providing them with a sense of self esteem, self confidence, also building community partnership. Our students are smiling. They are excited, and I just believe that it's going to go a long ways with them."
District materials said the partnership aimed to support students' basic needs and strengthen community ties; the district did not provide a detailed funding breakdown in the transcript.
