Board approves property purchase, Purdue studio and multiple personnel and donation items; votes at a glance

The Jennings County School Corporation board took several votes at its meeting, approving a property purchase, program participation, personnel recommendations, and donations. All recorded roll-call tallies in the meeting were unanimous 7-0.

Key actions approved by the board:

• Property purchase resolution: The board approved a resolution to purchase real estate across from Hayden Elementary to expand parent pickup parking and improve traffic flow. Motion moved by Travis, seconded by Sheryl; vote 7-0.

• Purdue Polytech Impact Design and Innovation studio: The board approved participation in a Purdue Polytechnic Institute studio (selected as one of a small number of districts in the 22-county southeastern region). The studio will be housed at the middle school and available to K–12 students. Motion moved by Chelsea, seconded by Pat; vote 7-0.

• Personnel and support staff: The board approved multiple personnel items by unanimous vote including: Rebecca Driver to Unified Assistant track coach; employment of two individuals as JCHS custodians (one position also including groundskeeper duties); permission to post one kitchen manager and up to four cook positions for the Summer Food Program. Motions moved and seconded as recorded on the agenda; combined tally 7-0.

• Donations accepted: The board approved recent donations, including $100 from Dave O’Meara to Brush Creek Elementary for a sixth-grade pizza celebration; $300 to the high school band; $150 to the HR Pathway class field trip; $100 to the orchestra department; and a $200 teacher grant to Norfair Elementary. Motion passed 7-0.

• Consent agenda: The meeting opened with acceptance of the consent agenda by unanimous vote, recorded as 7-0.
