Farmington board recognizes teachers and staff with 'Teaching with Heart' and support staff awards

The Farmington Public School District Board recognized teachers and support staff during its April 22 meeting, honoring Wendy Marsick of North Farmington with the Judy Wyor Teaching with Heart and Soul Award and naming Deb King the district’s Support Person of the Year for 2025.

District director of school community relations Diane Baumann introduced the Teaching with Heart and Soul Award, which the district created to honor the late Judy Wyor, former assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction. Baumann read the teaching pledge that accompanies the award and called forward Marsick, who was nominated for her dedication, long hours with students, and the lasting bonds she maintains with former pupils. Marsick told the board she has taught in the district for 27 years and thanked colleagues, family and former supervisors.

Director of facilities John Barth presented Deb King, described as a 22-year district employee and head custodian at Maxville Education Center since 2022, as Support Person of the Year. Barth cited King’s long service in a range of roles—paraprofessional aide, hall monitor and custodian—and colleagues’ praise for her meticulous care of facilities and positive impact on staff, students and families. King accepted thanks from trustees and attendees and the board said her award will be displayed in the new administration building.

Board members paused the meeting so attendees could greet the honorees and acknowledged the role of the awards in reflecting district values.
