Commission approves window replacements at 2511 Bellevue Avenue with grid condition

Staff described the house (built 1926) and noted existing windows are a mix of wood and vinyl and not original. The applicant (Renewal by Andersen, represented by Carolyn DeLong) proposed Fibrex windows; Historic Augusta and staff recommended consistent muntin patterns across the house, citing an 8‑over‑1 double‑hung sash as an appropriate pattern and noting that several proposed casement windows are an inappropriate design for this Craftsman‑style house unless altered to resemble double‑hung units.

Homeowner Jeff Sandlin described safety and accessibility concerns for his elderly father and said window 107 (at the bottom of a stairwell) should be replaced with a product less likely to shatter. Renewal by Andersen offered to add grids and mock check rails and said adding the grid on window 107 would be included at their cost; the company said converting casements to double‑hung would add several thousand dollars but offered an alternative of mock check rails for about $1,600 to achieve an equivalent appearance.

Commissioners moved to approve the five primary units and to include the grid condition so replacement windows match the historic appearance; the motion carried with all commissioners in favor.
