Planning commission names nonvoting liaisons to Friends of Imperial Parks

The Imperial City Planning Commission voted 3-0 to appoint Francisco as the commission's nonvoting primary representative and Rebecca as the alternate to the Friends of Imperial Parks board.
Anthony Lopez, Imperial City's parks and recreation director and founder of Friends of Imperial Parks, told commissioners the nonprofit was established in 2022 as a 501(c)(3) to support city park functions, youth programs and to pursue grants and funding sources municipalities might not be eligible for. Lopez said the nonprofit aims to resume monthly meetings in May and wants one commissioner and one councilmember to serve as nonvoting liaisons so the city is aware of any proposed work on city property.
Lopez said the group expects to set a recurring meeting date after finishing a board recruitment process and that meetings have historically been held on the last Tuesday of the month in the evening. Commissioners moved the appointments in a single motion and the vote carried 3-0.
The appointments are intended to ensure the nonprofit coordinates with city review processes; Lopez said any project on city property would still require review by the Planning Commission and final approval by the City Council. The commission did not attach additional conditions to the appointments.
The commission approved its consent calendar earlier in the meeting and handled the Friends of Imperial Parks appointment as part of new business.
