Beresford council launches search for next city administrator, schedules strategic planning session

The Beresford City Council agreed Monday to begin a public search for the city—9s next administrator and scheduled a strategic planning session for Thursday, May 22, from 3 to 5 p.m.
Council leadership said the search will start in the coming weeks after Jerry Zimitz signaled he will step down later this year; Zimitz—9s last day was described as likely in October. The council intends to advertise the position widely and return recommended candidates to the full council for consideration.
The strategic planning session will begin with a closed review by the council from 3 to 4 p.m. to refine elements of a draft strategic plan. The council then plans to open the second hour to the public to hear the council—9s priorities and gather input. The mayor said he also intends to present staff awards during the public portion, including volunteer of the year, senior city employee of the year and junior city employee of the year.
Council members discussed logistics and attendance: the session will be a public meeting because a majority of council members expect to participate. If scheduling conflicts arise the meeting may be rescheduled later in the summer. The council discussed hosting the event at The Bridges (the clubhouse) if the venue is available.
No formal action was taken Monday beyond confirming the date and the council—9s intent to begin recruitment. Council members asked staff to prepare a draft job announcement and to circulate the draft strategic plan elements to the council in advance for review.
