The Wooster City Council voted Monday to waive a hearing on a new D-5 liquor license application for Excelsior Room LLC, doing business as the Excelsior Room, at 144 West Liberty Street (second floor).
Miss Hamilton read the liquor-control petition on the record. Councilors were presented with three options — hold a hearing in the county seat, hold a hearing in Columbus, or waive the hearing — and a motion to waive the hearing was made and seconded; the council voted to waive the hearing by voice vote. For the record, the clerk read the D-5 license privileges: on- and off-sales of beer and wine, prepackaged low‑proof mixed beverages, and on‑premises consumption of high‑proof spirits until 2:30 a.m.
Councilors noted they typically waive hearings for similar petitions and expressed a desire for the liquor-control paperwork to include the license privileges by default so members know what they are approving without a hearing. No public comment was made on the license at the meeting.
