Miami Lakes youth committee votes to hold Halloween event the Saturday before, will consult town council

A committee meeting of the Miami Lakes Youth Events Task Force (YETF) ended Tuesday with members voting to hold the Halloween community event on the Saturday before Halloween and to notify and consult the Town Council about the plan.

The decision, moved by a committee member and seconded by another, set event hours from 6 to 10 p.m. and included an amendment to seek Town Council input before finalizing major logistics. During the meeting members emphasized that the committee must control vendor activities, enforce volunteer background checks, and clarify which activities must remain free to attendees.

The vote followed extended discussion about turnout, logistics and past problems at festivals. Committee members debated whether to stage the event on actual Halloween night — which some said would draw a larger crowd — or the prior Saturday to reduce setup complications for students. One member moved “I motion to have the Halloween event on the Saturday before,” which was seconded and, after amendment to consult council staff, approved by voice vote.
