HOW Center announces occupancy permit and grand opening after county update

Dan Jeans, representing the HOW Center, informed the Jefferson County Commissioners Court that the organization received an occupancy permit last Friday for a residential building the group renovated and will hold a grand opening next Tuesday.
"It's a 4,996 square foot, residential building," Jeans said in his presentation, noting the facility is intentionally under 5,000 square feet to remain in a different regulatory category. He told the court the occupancy permit was issued the prior Friday and the grand opening is scheduled for next Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m., with a ribbon cutting at 12:30 p.m. The HOW Center also plans an evening open house from 4 to 6 p.m.
Jeans said the HOW Center (which the presenter said stands for honesty, open-mindedness and willingness) is a long-standing sober-living operation in the region, serving people seeking recovery. He said the facility had initially appeared to come in about $50,000 under budget, but the organization later determined they also needed to furnish the building, which affected the final budget figures. Jeans said the operation coordinates with local first responders and community organizations, and that volunteers from the Rotary Club of Beaumont helped assemble bunk beds.
Jeans invited the public to the grand opening and said the HOW Center plans to begin moving residents in around the first of May. The presentation drew no action from the court; it was presented as an informational update on the agenda.
The court thanked Jeans for the update and the meeting moved on to remaining agenda items.
