Dunn County extends total burn ban amid dry fuels and red-flag conditions

The Dunn County Board of Commissioners voted to continue an emergency declaration maintaining a countywide total burn ban after hearing from emergency management staff and volunteer fire chiefs.
Emergency-management staff reported that despite recent moisture the county’s green-up has not overcome the available dry fuels and that local chiefs recommended maintaining the ban. Staff said neighboring jurisdictions, including North Dakota Fire Service and nearby counties, have also instituted burn restrictions and that a recent grass fire in the Taylor district jumped a slough and required multiple volunteer departments to respond.
A motion to maintain the total burn ban "until circumstances change" was made by Commissioner Pelton and seconded by Commissioner Klayman; the motion carried on a voice vote. Commissioners emphasized the ban will stay in place until fire officials advise conditions have improved.
Emergency-management staff and local fire chiefs will continue to monitor conditions and advise the commission when removal of the declaration is recommended. The county noted that the ban remains in effect until an explicit action is taken to lift it.
