Dunn County approves $2.8 million in grants to Dunsinore for street and infrastructure work

The Dunn County commission approved grant applications to the City of Dunsinore that together total $2.8 million for street and infrastructure improvements.

Presenters from Dunsinore explained the requests as two separate grant applications: an "orange" application for $1.5 million (phase 1b and related work) and a second application for $1.3 million covering another section of town. Colton Medley, a project presenter, said the county’s previously committed $3 million plus the new requests would cover the paving bids that came in for all phases, allowing the city to carry out the combined work in a shorter period. “With this, it would bump up your guys' total to another 1,500,000.0,” Medley said on the record.

Commissioners asked about the city’s overall obligations and the county budget; staff said the $3 million earlier committed covered phases 2 and 3 and that the new applications would add phase 1b and an alternate area. Commissioners then approved the applications by roll call vote; the recorded vote showed commissioners in favor.

Dunsinore officials said the work would include paving, curb and gutter where appropriate, storm drainage, and water main connections to reduce dead-end lines and improve fire flow. The presentations noted additional community benefits — including improved sidewalks, handicap-accessible church parking, and development-ready lots for housing and a planned museum site.

County staff and the city agreed the awards would be used to move the projects forward; commissioners asked staff to monitor the projects and report progress and budget impacts as the work proceeds.
